MEAT RATION SCHEME
May Be Tightened Up (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) ' DUNEDIN, May 7. A meeting of representatives of the prir. mary production councils of Otago and Southland, addressed by the Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Roberts), resolved to nrge the Government to encourage! ithe production of frozen meat for expoit to the United Kingdom by paying ouf to primary producers the increased prices for certain grades granted some time ago by the Imperial Government —an increase which at present was being held in the Stabilization Account, Wellington, and was understood to amount to aome millions. Mr. Janies Begg said, it did not encourage the farmers to increase production when they found that certain pressure groups were getting more than that to which they were entitled. Meat coupons were handed round freely, though anyone who adopted this practice was sabotaging the war effort. They wanted the Minister to take measures to tighten up the rationing scheme and see that more meat was sent to Britain. Mr. Roberts: I will.
