L.R.C. AND STREET DAY
Cr. W. Appleton Replies Cr Will Appleton said on Saturday that he would not have replied to the Labour Representation Committee statement on the street day for the disabled servicemen’s bowling green appeal had the latter set out the facts m their correct sequence. Instead the Labour statement quoted and concluded with a J?tter front the town clerk dated April 20. The L.R.U. secretary, Mr..J. H. Collins, was wed aware that, following this refusal, whicn was the result of a misunderstanding, the council reconsidered the matter on his (Cr. Appleton’s) request. It then decided to grant the request later when the present patriotic appeals had easea off. At present there were two street days each month—one for straight-out patriotic purposes, the other for some worthy public object. Mr. Collins began his statement as secretary of the L.R.C. and ended it by quoting a letter he had seen as a member of the bowling green appeal committee. If anyone was using the matter at issue as a political Tootball it was Mr. Collins. '
