ALLIED OFFENSIVE SWEEPS
(British Official Wireless.) (Received October 19, 7 p.m.) RUGBY, October IS. The Air Ministry states that Spitfires* destroyed three enemy fighters in offensive ( sweeps over northern France today. Typhoon bombers with a Typhoon fighter] escort attacked St. Omer airfield. Other, Typhoons and Spitfires attacked several] small enemy vessels off Ostend and dam-. a"ed a locomotive on Cherbourg Penin-. sula.' Two of our aircraft are missing.) United States Thunderbolts also engaged in offensive sweeps over enemy territory. One German fighter blew up in, mid-air. Three American fighters are. missing though, it is believed, not throughenemy action.
