HUTT PIPE BRIDGE

Engineers To Report On New Structure Preliminary steps toward the replacement of the Hutt, pipe bridge, or the con struction of a new bridge to take the traffic now carried by the pipe bridge, were taken at a conference of local bodies in the Wellington district yesterday. The meeting was attended by representatives of the Wellington City Council, the Lower Hutt Cit.v Council, the Petone Borough Council, the Eastbourne Borough Council, the Hutt County Council and the Public Works Department, and by the Government Town Planning Officer. Mr. J. W„ Mawson. It was decided that newspaper representatives should not be present. Afterward it was announced that the meeting bad decided to recommend to local bodies that they continue for another 12 months the existing agreement for Hie maintenance of the bridge, and had decided to set up a committee of local body engineers, including the engineers of the Wellington Harbour Board and the Hutt River Board, to report on the site of a new bridge, the main features to be embodied in its design, its probable cost, and possible dates of commencement of construction and completion.
