NEW GERMAN LINE?
LONDON, October 17. A correspondent says it is possible that the .Germans may hold a new line from tile slopes of a mountain near the west coast of Italy, and running northeast to the mountains and continuing on lhe eastern side of the Volturno Valley. Such a line, he says, offers good defence possibilities, and the enemy would have the advantages of observation from high ground. The Luftwaffe has attempted several times to attack concentrations north of the Volturno. Formidable forces; ot planes have been sent over, but attempts to pierce the Allied screen have met with Hille success. The enemy has suffered considerable losses.
Our lighter-bombers silenced a great German railway gun with nn 11-milc range, which was shelling the central front.
