Eleven Senior Teams

The management committee of the Wellington Cricket Association at yesterdays meeting decided to accept the entries of 11 teams for the senior competition durin., the 1043-44 eeason, reserving the right to regrade any of the teams at any time. Mr. W. A. Baker, chairman of the senior championship committee, said it was not considered advisable to demote any of the teams of the old established clubs during ’mtTb. Banks said it was not desirable to have a bye in the senior competition. Mr. R. W. Coupland said a bye did not matter so much in one-day cricket: it only meant each team standing down for one Saturday in 11. . Mr. L. J. Brabin, chairman of the junior championship committee, reported that 16 teams had entered for the second grade, 11 for the third, and eight for the fourth. The chairman, Mr. J. D. Howitt, said that from reports it should be possible to start championship games on October 30 if the weather improved. A letter was received from the New Zealand Cricket Council advising associations to play as many representative games as possible during the holiday periods thia 6e it°was decided to write to the Canterbury and Auckland associations advising that Wellington was agreeable to play three-day representative games during the ho’idays. on the same terms as last year —that proceeds be split 50-:>0. and that visiting players be billeted. The Army Team. The Armv team which will compete in the Wellington Cricket Association s senior championship competition this season will be something of an unknown quantity. The names sent in to the management committee yesterday as composing the team included C. L. Stubbs and R. Mainwaring (Southland), U. A. Andrews, G. Head, L McManus and F. R. E. Fricker (Auckland), J. Stenberg (Duntroon), R. R. Mace (Napier), R. Rutledge and W. H. Jarman (Christchurch), D. Breed (Wanganui), K G. Heley and K. M. Thompson (Wellington). ■■ ■ • f
