APPEAL TURNED DOWN
Striking U.S. Coal Miners
LONDON, October IS. Twenty-two thousand striking coal minors in Alabama have turned down an I appeal by the president of the United {Mino Workers’ Association, Mr. John L. I Lewis, acting at the request of the United States War Labour Board, to return to work. Yesterday they voted almost unanimously to continue the strike which is interrupting the production of pig iron and steel in the district.
