Mr A. Seifert (Palmerston North), chairman of the greens research committee, said that if the committee received a grant of £250 for 1944 it should be able to carrj on next year. The reduction in expenditure had been brought about by etrmt economv without impairing the efficient) of tlie research work. The Scientific and Industrial Department had taken over onefifth of the area for aerodrome grass and nianurial trials, and from these trials were carrying out valuable work on airports throughout New Zealand. As they supplied their own fertilizer and labour, tins bad reduced costs for the greeu research committee. , ... The committee was anxious to, keep tne research work going during tlie war period because of the great benefit, it would bo to clubs when the war was over. Mr. Seifert said that in the 11 years since tlie greens reeearch work had beep established it had cost the association about- £6OOO, bitt tills did not take into consideration the invaluable services given gratuitously by such eminent Government specialists as Mr. E. Bruce Levy, agrostologist at Hie plant research station, and tlie assistant agrobiologist at tiie station, Mr E A. Madden, who had at all times given their expert advlee most freely. It would have cost tlie association much more than £6OOO to have engaged tlie services of such highly qualified specialists. Mr. W. M. Horton, supervisor of tjie grass plots and advisory officer to cluns. said the research area was in firts-cln.sS condition and the work was being expanded as necessary. The data secured from time to time enabled the committee to keep clubs informed along the’most modern linos for turf improvement, and maintenance. T,t was hoped Unit tin* association would provide a graht for 1944 to keep tlie research work going. 1 On the motion of Hie president, seconded by Mr. B. C.
