LETTERS TO EDITOR

Garrison Duty

Sir,-—There is a considerable number of men on garrison duty, many of whom are located in isolated districts with few opportunities for leave. These men deserve an extended Christmas leave and I suggest to the military authorities that volunteers could bo obtained from the Home Guard to take the place of men on garrison duty or bn vital points. I am sure that many in the Home Guard would agree to serve for a week or a fortnight. They would benefit from the experience and it would give the garrison personnel a welcome spell. —1 am, etc., HOME GUARDSMAN. Wellington, October 15.
