Dominion Special Service. PALMERSTON N., October 14. Following heavy rain throughout last night Palmerston North was lashed by a severe storm during the forenoon today. Accompanied by high winds, torrential rain fell, quickly flooding streets where the channels were unable to cope with the storm water. The subway was flooded to a depth of two feet. From midnight tli& level of 3ft. 6in. of the Manawatu River at Fitzherbert Bridge had risen to sft. 3in. by 1 p.m. A heavy slip has blocked the Pahiatua hill road near Aokautere.
