Scales Of Battle Slowly Turning
LONDON, October 13. On tlie sixth day of the Russians’ 'great attempt to breach the Dnieper Line the issue is still hanging in the balance, but the reports suggest that the scale is gradually coming down against the Germans. A correspondent of the Moscow Izvestia” says he can see the steeple; and towers of Kiev less than two miles away. People who have escaped from Kiev told him that the Germans have burnt down hospitals, schools and theatres there, and German gallows are standing in one of the city squares. Ou the Gomel sector the Germans have lost 5500 men in a stubburn two-day battle.
