GERMANS BURNING GOMEL
LONDON, October 12. The final phase of the battle for Gomel, in White Russia, is approaching. German incendiary troops are moving through the town as the Russians mass for the final attack. Across the Dnieper the Germans bate thrown in forces exceeding the Russian bridgehead forces by five to one in the endeavour to restore the position.
