ANOTHER EXPLOSION ROCKS NAPLES
Time-Bomb In Barracks LONDON. October 11. The Naples artillery barrack, were blown up by a German time-bomb yesterday morning. Twenty-five dead and 35 wounded have already been removed from the barracks, reports a representative of the combined Press. Rescuers are still working. The explosion rocked the centre of the city, and a great column of smoke and dust rose up. Dozens of men were trapped under the ruins. The barracks had been inspected for booby traps, but the presence of a tinie-bonib was not suspected. The Germans apparently tunnelled under the barracks and placed several tons of explosives under the building. , General Alexander, who arrived in Naples today, says a war correspondent, personally complimented General Clark on the magnificent achievements of the Fifth Army .in capturing Naples against the formidable German opposition. General Clark showed General Alexander round 'Naples. General Alexander showed particular interest in the port, where Allied engineers and repair units were at work clearing the area of mines and debris. , , . The port of Naples will be under the Royal Navy, while the Fifth Army will control the city. General Alexander had a long discus 1 sion with Marshal Badoglio’s representative concerning governmental reconstruction in Naples, which is at present controlled by Anigot. . . A correspondent of the British United Press with the Fifth Army reports, that the Germans are systematically killing all live stock on sectors of the Vo.ttirno front. The Allied troops found slaughtered horses, cows, and pigs scattered over Ilia countryside.
