TRIESTE BELIEVED UNDER SIEGE

Zagreb Also Isolated LONDON, October 11. Trieste and Zagreb, two of the greatest German strongholds in the Balkans, are reported to have been cut off from the outside world by the converging Partisan armies, declared Bari radio. The Germans in Trieste are completely besieged. Yugoslav forces overcame strong German resistance and occupied the heights dominating the town. An allout Partisan offensive against the Ger-man-controlled railway network is continuing unabated. A Yugoslav communique reports that successful offensive operations were continued along the Ogulin-Knrlovae-Zagreb railway. In the Susak region the Germans were forced to retreat at some points. Croat patriots occupied a point on the Zagreb-Belgrade railway and derailed two armoured trains. Eastern Bosnia partisans occupied Bijelina, 35 miles north-east of Tuzla, the capture of which was announced last week.

In .Slovenia violent fighting continues for railways between Liubljnna, Gorizia, Trieste, and Fiume. A later Yugoslav Partisan communique states: “We have captured the island of Cherso, which commands the channel to Fiume. All the islands and the whole coast of northern Dalmatia are now in our hands except for the fortified town of Zara.”
