FOOD FOR ALLIES
Lend-Lease Shipments
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, October 10. The American authorities have announced that lend-lease exports of food to the Allies in the first eight months of 1943 amounted to about 9 per cent, of the total food supply of America compared- with the 1942 exports, which were about 0 per cent. Though only 1 percent. of beef and veal has been exported, a relatively greater amount of lamb, mutton and pork was shipped. Exports of lamb and mutton were about 12 per cent, of the total, and pork was about 15 per cent. The proportion of milk products sent abroad under lendlease has been under 3 per cent. Last year it was 3.4 per cent. Exports of blitter have been 1 percent. Shipments of cheese amounted to 11. per cent, of the total, compared with 23 per cent, in 1942. Of canned fruits and vegetables .the lend-lease administration shipped about 1 per cent.' Dried fruits amounted to about 21 per cent, of the supply, and dried beans and peas about 11 per cent.
