TRAFFIC CONTROL

Hutt And Petone Part Company The by-laws committee reported to the Lower Hutt City Council last night that advice had been received from the Petone Borough Council that the recommendation contained in the joint committee’s report to the respective councils had not been adopted, and it had been further decided that Petone would best be served by having complete control of a full-time traffic inspector, and in consequence Petone had decided to terminate the present arrangement of joint traffic control. The Petone council suggested that the present arrangement should terminate on October 31, and as the present equipment would appear to be more of a necessity for Lower Hutt, Petone .was agreeable to it being taken over by Lower Hutt at valuation. The committee recommended the council to agree to terminate the arrangement as suggested by Petone, to take over the plant, and to retain Inspectors Archer and Rennie on the Lower Hutt. City (Council staff. The recommendations of the committee were adopted, the mayor, Mr. J. W. Andrews, remarking that there would still be the closest co-operation in traffic control between Lower Hutt and Petone.
