Flag Week Produces Over £12,000

ZONE SHORTAGE REDUCED

Thanks to a Herculean effort last mouth and in the early days of October the shortage in the Wellington Metropolitan Patriotic Committee’s quota for the year ended September 30 has been considerably reduced. To all those who so generously and energetically assisted in Flag Week, particularly the various E.P.S. and patriotic organizations and the Public Service, the honorary secretary, Mr. V. Ward, has forwarded the following letter: — . “On behalf of my committee, I wish to express its appreciation to you and. ail others who so generously gave their time to call on individual firms and professional men with the object of helping us to raise the Wellington quota of patriotic funds required for the year ended September 30. When we started this particular canvass on July 26 we were £57,000 short of our quota of £100,561 (Wellington zone share of provincial quota of £205,410). By the end of September that was reduced to £19,800. “During the final week the Public Service had a Flag Week, which brought in no less a sum than £12,204/7/4 (for the collection of which some £2OOO will go to the credit of the E.P.S. organizations). The exact figures are' as follows: — “E.P.S. (fire section house-to-house canvas), £764/5/10; E.P.S. (wardens’ group), £362/11/3; E.P.S. (accommodation group), canvass of suburbs, £314 18/5: East Harbour Patriotic Committee, £ll2/4/7; Lower Hutt E.P.S., £174 10/-; Petone Patriotic Committee, £220 14/4; Public Services’ teams, £10,255 3/-. “Grand total of Flag Week, £12,204 7/4. , . “Taking into account the splendid result of Flag Week,- the quota shortage for the metropolitan zone has been considerably reduced, and it can be said that Wellington province has played its part well in raising funds for comforts and recreational requisites for our boys overseas and in camp. I wish to express my personal thanks to all who have so willingly helped in the campaign.”
