TRIBUTE TO DONNELLY

N.Z.E.F. Official News Service. CAIRO, October 5.

Reviewing the Expeditionary Forces cricket during the past season, the “N.Z.E.F. Times” states that the outstanding cricketer of the Second N.Z.E.F. and the Middle East was undoubtedly M. P. Dorfnelly, the ex-Canterbury and New Zealand representative. In five games for the Second N.Z.E.F., Donnelly scored 415 runs, securing an average of 103.3 and he took 11 wickets for 113 rune. In addition, he set a standard cf fielding which placed him in a class of his own. He also played first-class cricket for the Gezira Sporting Club. N.Z.E.F. teams played three games against South Africa; winning two and losing one. Later the Springboks won decisively against the rest of Egypt, a side which included Donnelly. V. J. Scott and T. Pritchard.
