INFORMAL TALKS

Empire Air Conference

(Received October 10, 7.5 p.m.) OTTAWA, Ocober 9.

The Empire conference on air transport will open in Loudon on Monday. Announcing this, the Department of External Affairs said that the Minister of Munitions, Mr. Howe, would lead' the Canadians and representatives, of Australia. New Zealand, South Africa and India would attend. The discussions would be exploratory and informal since the international air transport problem was not one which the British Commonwealth countries alone could solve. It was expected that the discussions in London would be followed by conferences with the United States, Russia and other countries. The question of ship owners taking part in post-war civil aviation was further discussed at a meeting of the General Council of British Shipping Production. A report was made on replies indicating the substantial interest of the ship owners and the council has made arrangements for those who desired to take part in air transport to work out their proposals through the appropriate organizations.
