(Received October 8, 10.5 p.m.) NEW YORK, October 7. “It is obvious we stopped the last war too soon. This time we must carry through to the bitter end unless we want to face another ■war in 1963.” This was stated by the Secretary of the Navy, Colonel Knox, at a Press conference al Balboa, on his return from the European theatre. ' Commenting on the fighting tn Italy, Colonel Knox stressed the excellent performance of the British aud added that there six different triphibious components of the Anglo-American sea, land and air forces were co-operating splendidly. The question of the Italian Fleet was still linger discussion, because the problem of the crews was not yet solved. Referring to Hie battle ot the Atlantic, # he said: “The U-boats are out again, but wo won the first round and expect to win the next.”
