Atatu (Galvin) was responsible for the best four furlongs tn 51 4-0. He Is very bright and muscular and it should not u« for lack of condition it he tails to make a forward showing in the Great Northern Guineas. Atatu won handsomely in ike hack class at Paeroa on Saturday. Icefloe (Bagby) was a shade better than Foxlore (B. Markwick) over five furlongs in 1.6 3-5 after running the first two in 3-5. Ika Moana jumped boldly over the steeplechase fences on the flat. Hot Shot went well over around of the. steeplechase fences with Surpeen, Abbey Lu accompanying them over the fences on tho flat. "While galloping with Broielov. tlio two-year-old Navroze crashed through the fence on the outside of the course proper and gave his ride, W. Hooton, a heavy fall. Hooton was removed to hospital suffering from injured ribs. Navroze cut himself about a good deal and it is unlikely that he will be able to run in the WelcomeStakes. At Talmnini. The Mitchetoon Cup favourite Lord Chancellor took the honours at Takanlnl this morning by a convincing defeat of Representative over a mile in 1.47, after running the first half in 53. Lord Chancellor trailed his companion in the early stages and finished very strongly. The gallop took place 10 feet out from the rails and the going was soft. Another impressive effort was that of Yorkist, who finished just in front of Balfron at the conclusion of a smartly run six furlongs in 1-19. The manner in which he galloped drew pointed attention to his prospects in the Gordon Handicap. Balfron is a sluggish worker. Kentish and Route March were associated over six furlongs in 1.21 1-5. Beau Vaals was too good for Royal Merit over five furlongs, conceding a good deal of weight and defeating him by two lengths in 1.6 3-5. Royal Merit has not been up very long.
