Patriotic Sewing And Knitting Done The very considerable part taken by the Wellington Lyceum Club in welfare work ’associated with the war effort was indicated in the report presented at the annual meeting. The special report of the.. Avar sewing circle showed that more than 1000 articles had been made up and torwarded to the joint council of the Orderof St. John and the- Red Cross Society. These articles included bedcapes, orderly gowns, pyjamas, covers, handkerchiefs, face cloths and surgeon’s towels, . also knitted articles such as pullovers,, mittens and socks. In addition to this work the circle 'had made up numerous garments and necessaries. These were supplied by the Red Cross Society already cut out,'and it had been the work of the circle to make them'up ’ according to specifications. . , A team of 35 helpers had regularlv attended at the prisoners of war relief depot for the work of packing parcels for prisoners of war. During the year some 83->0 parcels were packed, which in turn were packed into cases ready for dispatch overseas. Helpers were also provided to pack Christmas parcels for American soldiers. In response to the appeal to the Sick. Wounded and Distress I'und the executive committee of the chin organized a bring and buy day which pro) ed highly successful, enabling a substantial amount to be added, to the fund, this was added a gift from the funds of the war sewing circle. ■ The following oflieers were elected toi the current year:—l resident, Airs Day 1 Herbert: vice-presidents, Airs. 8 K.
