KIWI CONCERT PARTY

Official Welcome Given At A.N.A. Club The official Wellington welcome to the Kiwi concert party of Middle East fame took place at the A.N.A. Club last night, when the usual club dance was turned into a special gathering at which members of the party were guests of honour. New Zealand men on furlough were guests of the club and the dance - was largely attended by Allied servicemen, girls, of the A.N.A. auxiliary and members of the club committees. The mayor, Mr. Hislop, and the Hon. W. Perry welcomed the concert party, Captain’Geoffrey College, replying on the men s behalf. The ballroom was crowded from early in the-evening. - Attractive prizes were awarded to the holders of lucky numbers and to the winners of the monte. carlo; a “snowball” number made an ideal way for the dancers to meet .and mix. Pupils of Miss Jean Horne gave two items that were much enjoyed. Mrs. A. McKinnon was in charge of dancing and members of the various committees assisted generally throughout. There were cigarettes for the guests and supper was served from flower-decked tables, the official party being entertained at sup-per-time in the billiard room. A fourpiece orchestra played for dancing. Bowls of fuchsia coloured rhodenueudrons decorated the supper tables and the billiard room and there were arum lilies and massed daffodils about the lounge and cafeteria. The official party included representatives of the services and members of the club executive, Mr. V. Ward, secretary of the Metropolitan Patriotic Committee, Mrs. IT. F. O’Leary, official club hostess, Mrs. R. B. Gibbons, chairman of the women’s committee, Mr. W. D. Gordon, chairman of the men’s committee. Miss Moya Hemptou, chairman of the girls’ committee, and Mr. A. Urquhart, secretary.
