AEROPLANE CRASH
Inquest At Auckland (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, October 6. An inquest into the deaths of two’ members of the Air Force who were killed on September 13 when their plane crashed into a gully at Waiuku duringtraining exercises, was held before the district coroner. The victims were Pilot Officer William David AlcJanpet, Christchurch, who was pilot of the machine, and Sergeant Douglas Martin James Cairns, Auckland. Constable Buckley stated that shortly before noon on the day of the fatality he saw an aircraft lose height. The machine went into a vertical climb, rolled over on its back, and fell toward the ground nose first. He arrived at the scene of the crash four minutes later and found the machine enveloped in flames. It was apparent from the nature of the crash that the two occupants would ,be killed as soon as the machine hit the ground. The fire brigade arrived but could not do anything. An Air Force crash crew and ambulance later arrived, and after the flames were under control the bodies were removed from the wreckage. The coroner returned a verdict of death through being involved in an aeroplane crash..
