Primary Production
Sir,—Farmers have been ordered to increase production. This is in spite of the fact that the land has been drained of its workers in order to over-commit New Zealand (in the number of soldiers sent overseas), and that elderly women and young children arc already working as kind slaves. Farmers as a whole have shown their opinion of the land policy of the Government by unseating the Minister of Agriculture, and returning National Party candidates to every country seat. It would be well if the Prime Minister could read the writing on the wall and endeavour to act co-operation .with the farmers instead of only preaching it. Dictatorship, is not co-operation, ■’though Hitler would have us believe it is.
It seems unwise, to put it mildly, that when primary production is practically the sole source of New Zealand’s export, income, the Government is* apparently determined to continue to antagonise the whole farming community.—l am, etc. — FARMER’S WIFE. Masterton, October 2.
