Soldiers’ Mail
Sir, —The publication, in your issue pf October 4. of the message from Auckland about the irregularity of the mail service from the Middle East was much appreciated by relatives and friends of the men of the 2nd N.Z.E.F. Since the return of our famous division from Tunisia, the mail service from the troops has been deplorable and, as a parent of a member of the division, I have felt somewhat sore about the lack of satisfactory contact. This complaint is shared by many others of my acquaintance who have waited months for letters from their sons. Our sense of injustice has been accentuated by conversation with the American troops, whose mail contact with their homeland is far superior to that of our men.
Now that you have set the ball tolling, it is to be hoped that the agitation will grow till the authorities arc induced to effect a much-needed acceleration of this service.—l am, etc. —PARENT. Wellington, October 5.
