MURDEROUS NAZI RETREAT

Bombers Used For Scorching Earth SLAVERY AND DEATH LONDON, October 3. The British United Press correspondent in Moscow reports that clouds of German planes are dropping incendiaries, setting fire to villages behind the White Russian front. Sixty-seven villages have already.been razed in a major effort to create a vast scorched earth area between the Vitebsk-Orsha-Mogilev-Gomel line and the LithuanianLatvian border.

The German High Command told the German people only today of the evacuation of Kremenchug, which Marshal 'Stalin announced last Thursday. The German announcement added: “We ferried across the Dnieper 45,000 horse-drawn vehicles, 160,000 head of cattle, 110,000 sheep and 62.000 civilians.”

Moscow radio stated that about 40,000 bodies were found in a mine shaft opened up after the recapture of Stalino from the Germans. The bodies nearly filled the mine.
