OVER SWISS TERRITORY

LONDON, October i. Swiss anti-aircraft guns, shot down ,an American Flying Fortress today ■when a group of Fortresses fought a battle against German fighters over _ Swiss territory, states a Swiss communique. Other planes crashed as a result of the air battle. Bombs were dropped in various parts of east Switzerland, causing damage. (Received October 3, 8.20 p.m.) LONDON, October 2.

The Swiss radio says it is officially announced that four American Fortresses were shot down yesterday. They were flying over Swiss territory after raiding the Weiner-Neustadt area. German fighters pursued and engaged them. Swiss anti-aircraft guns opened up. Some of the Fortress crews escaped by parachute.
