OBITUARY

Mr. A. E. Morris

The death occurred recently at his residence, 126 Coutts Street, Kilbirnie, of Mr. Albert Edward Morris. Mr. Mprris was employed by the electrical branch of the Post and Telegraph Department Avorkshops, Wellington, and in his position as clock repairer became Avell knoAivn throughout Parliament House and in many of the Government departments in Wellington. As a member of the Kilbirnie Cricket Club and of the Lyall Bay Bowling Club he also had a wide circle of friends and acquaintances. He avhs aged Mr. Morris shav service in the Great War, and after his return to New Zealand he joined the Post and Telegraph Department as clock repairer. He Avas an acknoAvledged expert with clocks and was a fine craftsman. Part of his duties Avas the maintenance of the clocks at Parliament House. , . -xMr. Morris gained senior status witn the Kilbirnie Cricket Chib and later was a successful member of the Lyall Bay Bowling Club. The esteem in which he Avas held was reflected by the large attendance at his funeral. Those present included the Prime Minister, Mr. Fraser, his former workmates, and others with whom he came in contact in his Avork and on the field of sport. The service was conducted by the Rev. W. S. Rollings, Ngaio. Mr., Morris leaves a widoiv and tAVO daughters. Mr. E. X. Le Lievre

The deatli is reported in a Press Association telegram from* Christchurch ot Mr Etienne Xavier Le Lievre, of Akaro:i He had a long association with Banks Peninsula, having been born at Akaroa on June 23, 1854, the sou of 15. F. Le Lievre. of Normandy. France, Avho (■nine first to New Zealand with the French whaler Langlois in 1838, when Langlois bought Banks Peninsula irom the ‘Maoris. .15. F. Le Lievre was a member of the crew of the Comte de Paris, which brought settlers to Akaroa in August, 1840, but returned to France with the ship aud came out finally to settle at Akaroa in 1842. Mr. E. X. Le Lievre was educated nt Pigeon Bay Private School and Akaroa School. lie gained farming experience with his father and took over tjje Patut Bay property. His interest, in trotting took him to the United Slates on several occasions, and ho has imported many trotters to Ncaa- Zealand. He bred and raced Peter Bingen, winner of a_ New Zealand Cup, ami he won the Wellington Cun Avith Great Audubon. Mr, Le Lievre was a former mayor of Akaroa and tormci- chairman of the Akaroa County Council.
