Heavy Rain In Wanganui And Rangitikei Dominion Special Service. WANGANUI, October 3. Rivers aud streams in Wanganui and Rangitikei district have been considerably swollen by tbe heavy rain recorded on Friday, Saturday and early this morning. Low-lying areas have been inundated, transport rendered difficult aud conditions made unpleasant for all. Slips on the Main Trunk on Saturday night caused”the Wellington relief train to Auckland to he delayed at Mangaweka for one hour and a half, and the Auck-land-Wellington express was baited at Ilunterville for three hours. .Slips on tbe New Plymouth-Wellington line were also reported this afternoon, one being just north of Aramoho aud a small one in the vicinity of Turakimi. They are both expected to be cleared in time for the scheduled run of the railcar to Wellington tonight. There was a big improvement in the weather in Wanganui today, and the rivers and creeks along the coast ate quickly receding to normal levels.
