1500 Attend Spinsters’ Club Birthday | There were approximately 1500 guests at the Spinsters-' Club's fourth birthday party, held yesterday afternoon and evening in the Majestic Cabaret, Wellington. A thousand at least were servicemen, and a prize yyas awarded, to the five hundredth man signing the visitors book, this going to Corporal Howard Roller, U.S.M.C. The club has entertained 40,000 men for this year, and in th" four years that it has been established, 87,000 servicemen have been its guests, all being admitted free of charge. These figures do not include the numbers who attended the special Saturday a A. C festive atmosphere prevailed. Ices were served during the afternoon aud a special birthday tea included hot and cold savouries, cakes, sandwiches and savoury eggs. The large birthday cuke, decorated by the secretary, Miss o „y Hymns, "'as cut with a military sword amid songs and cheers, by the president, Mrs. L. M. Hyams. The cake was wheeled to the centre of the ballroom floor by tlie committee members, who were introduced to the gathering by the master of ceremonies, Mr. A. Dvyan. Mr. Diian welcomed men of mauy ot the Allied Nations who attended, also New Zealand returned men. Congratulatory telc-o-rams were read and men representing all the services unfurled a large banner that depicted land, sea and air forces aud the Home Guard. Miss Hyams spoke oil behalf of the girl' members. The elub once again expresses its gratitude to Mr. F. Carr, of the Majestic Cabaret, for placing the cabaret and its facilities at the members’ disposal for this occasion. Specially invited to be present were Miss Amy Kane, patroness of the club; the mayor of Wellington, Mr. Hislop , representatives from other service clubs, Mr. F. Claxton, of the American Red Cross; and the following officers representing the American and New Zealanu forces; Major-General Julian C. and his aide. Captain Bear, Colonel 1. U. Van Ness, Captain O. Cap ' tain Boyle, Commander 11. R. Sleeman, Lieutenant-Colonel H. Foster, Wing Commander G. L. Stedman. Among the many friends and well-wish-ers who attended were the vice-presi-dents, Mesdames V. Gray, A. D. Bayfeild, Steele, A. Warburton, E. L. AKrovd, Miss Beresford, also LieutenantColonel and Mrs. Thompson, Flight Lieutenant .Stedman, Mr. and Mrs. A. Jacobs, Mrs. Brooke-Taylor, Mrs. Martin Williams, Mrs. L. Hunt, Mr. E J. Hyams. Dancing was interspersed with floor shows, given by Miss Bunty Harrison, Mr Peter Rowell, Mr. A. Elston, president of the Tin Hat Club, and members ot the Brooklyn. R.S.A.
