Restoring Copra Areas Shareholders should not anticipate dividends above the present reduced rate while territory in which the company had large interests remained in enemy hands, said Mr. R. B. Carpenter, presiding at the animal meeting in Sydney of W. R. Carpenter and Company, Limited. Enlarged cash holdings would be used mainly for the rehabilitation of properties and undertakings in tlie Pacific, particularly In New Guinea. This would be necessary, because war damage claims would be paid only after protracted procedure. Continuance of the war results should enable an entry of the planting community at least. Considerable capital outlay was anticipated to restore tlie younger areas to good order, and to bring tlie older estates into productivity. and restore labour, premises and transport. If present copra prices of about £lB a ton fo.b. island ports held till the planting community was rehabilitated, profitable results could be obtained.

Beechams Pills, Ltd., Profit Profits of Beecham’s Pills Ltd. rose by £94,119 this year to £1.269.334, said the chairman. Mr. P. E. Hill. Sales bad greatly Increased for tlie company’s specialties. New lines have been put. on tiie markets and their successful exploitation is only n matter of time.” said the chairman. Apart from purchase tax. nearly £1.500.000 bad been or would be paid ii. taxation. N.Z. Exchange Rates
