ECONOMIC WOUNDS
U.S. View Of Post-War Responsibilities (Received October 1, U pan.) NEW YORK, September 30. “Private initiative alone will not be able to heal the economic wounds of the post-war world, therefore the Government must continue to have a hand in business and take risks and make investments which private capital cannot afford, said the Secretary of Commerce, Mr Jesse Jones, addressing the Board ot Trade “However, the Government should not stay- in active industry longer than needed. ■ , “The United States cannot shoulder the whole load and must co-operate with the United Nations in order to assist the countries who suffered, most. I'or example, excess plant facilities could oe shipped from the United States to other nations. IVe must supply others with what they need, not what we want to sell, because otherwise we cannot expect them to deal with us.”
