CHURCH OR HOSPITAL?
Auckland Manpower Appeals Two appeals by hospital workers, a nurse and a male orderly, were before the Auckland Manpower Appeal Commit.tee this week, and in both tlie workers asked to be allowed to leave their work in Auckland Hospital to take up churcn missionary work. The woman stated that she had taken her nursing training with a view to becoming a nurse-mission-ary in India, and had been accepted for that work by the Central Asian Mission. She said her intention was known at the hospital when she began her training. The mission also appealed for her. The orderly desired to take up missionary tVork with the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand. He had been an orderly nt the hospital for 24 years. An appeal for his release was also made by the Presbyterian Cliurcli. Evidence for the hospital dealt wilh tlie staff shortage, and at its conclusion, the nurse’s appeal was adjourned for four 'months mid that of the orderly for three, the workers to remain in their jobs in the incmitiiue.
