NO PROVISION YET
Australian Office In N.Z.
SYDNEY. September 30. No provision is made in. the Budget presented to Parliament yesterday for the establishment <>f an Australian High Commissioner’s office in New Zealand, says the Canberra correspondent of the “Daily Telegraph.” The New Zealand High Commissioner, Mr. Berendsen, was appointed several mouths ago, and there has been considerable comment in Canberra over the Australian Government's failure to reciprocate. Exchange of diplomatic representation is usually (iracticnlly simultaneous. The new Estimates, however, while 'providing for expenditure on all other Australian Legations abroad', make no mention of New Zealand. The Prime Minister, Mr. Curtin, stltd that the non-appearance of the New Zealand post, iu the Estimates wits not significant. No appointment hud yet been made, so it was unnecessary to make provision for cxpenilttui'?.
