Support For MacArthur’s Opposition

(Received September 30, 7.5 pan.) WASHINGTON, September 29. The first meeting of the Pacific War Council since the appointment of Admiral Louis Mountbatten as Comma filler-in-Chief, East Asia, was held today. After the meeting, Sir Ronald Campbell, the British Charge d'Affaires, said that members of the council agreed with General MacArthur’s opposition to ml island-hopping strategy. He added that it. would be difficult to find disagreement ou that among representatives of the Pacific Powers. President Roosevelt, he said, had reviewed the genetail Pacific situation and had looked somewhat into the future, th? prospects of which were regarded by members ns not too bad.
