Wettest Since 1874

Not 'fol- nearly seventy years has YVellington had such a wet September as that just ended. It did not establish a record, the highest rainfall ever recorded for this month having been 11.00 inches recorded' at tlie Sydney Street cemetery in 1874. However, Iby 9 o clock last night, when it. was still raining steadily, the meteorological station at Kelburn reported that 9.42 inches had fallen this September, including 42 -poipts since rain hud set in again early in the alterrioon. The belief that YVellington city has been getting more than its fair share ot rainfall (luring recent months is confirmed by the recording, from JuneSeptember inclusive, of a rainfall ot 3U..&1 inches, the total of .10.03 inches for June being an all-time record'. During this period of 'four months, Wellington has had a rainfall not far short of the average of 33.0 inches for the first nine months of the year. YVith three months still to go, the YVellington rainfall so far this year has been 44.28 inches, compared with 41. inches for last year. • The average rainfall in Wellington for 'September is 3.'4;> inches, and total in 'September of last year .'Was Roll inches. These figures have been almost trdblcd by the rainfall in the month just ended.
