26tii Birthday Celebrations Many pupils, past pupils, parents and friends shared in the celebrations yesterday at St. Mark’s Church School, Wellington, to mark the school’s twentysixth anniversary. The assembly hall, where programmes were given by, the pupils at afternoon and evening sessions, was flanked with camellias and, delicate spring blossoms, pride of place being given to a table of birthday cakes contributed bv school supporters. . The official cake, of two tiers, set with candles' and bows, was capped with a small stand containing red. anemones, white freesias and blue hyacinths, which repeated the school colour scheme of red, white and blue. A novel gift cake which attracted attention bad robins and small children sliding down-its snowy ICl jfi'ss A. Holm, principal, who welcomed the guests, was. presented with a posy of spring flowers, and items and tea concluded the afternoon concert. A special ceremony was featured during the e \ en " ing, when Miss Holm congratulated Mr. G. W. Barltrop on the double achievement of having been the first school secretary and having recently attained his 80th year. A white fretwork cake was given to Mr. Barltrop on behalf of the school in honour of the occasion. Those who took part in the concert programmes were Josie Pellew, Marjorie Roberts, and George Gray (recitations). Mrs. Rainsbottom, Pat Munro, loin Jackson (songs), Diana Southee, Verna Armstrong (dances). Verse-speaking was presented by standards three and four, and various standards took part in singing school choruses. Miss N. Richardson and Mr Jamieson were the accompanists. Mesdames Muir and Robertshaw sent cakes. The school eake was iced by Miss Una Carter.
