PEOPLE’S MOVEMENT
Sponsoring Parliamentary Group Powerful new opposition to the Labour and National Parties was promised by Mr. James Crisp, president Of the People’s Movement, m a statement issued yesterday, in whjch he also addressed a series of questions to the Prime Minister. , , , , The People’s Movement had always steadfastly opposed the holding of an election during the critical period of war, said Mr. Crisp, but it had equally made it plain that it intended to place a number of new political principles before the people. The country had a right to know now whether a definite decision had been reached, and whether the approximate date of the elections had been fixed. “The People’s Movement,’ said Mr. Crisp, “is sponsoring a Parliamentary "roup, which will include men and women who are determined to rid Parliament of the evil aspects of party government. This group has been substantially in being for some time, and Dominion-wide representation will be complete in the near future. . . .We consider that, if an election is to be held, we have a duty to give the people an opportunity of deciding whether the system we propose is preferable to that offered by the parties in Parliament. I ~ .. “We desire to know, additionally,, it we. as a new election factor of Dominionwide representation, will be afforded full opportunities to make known our Parhamentary group and political principles to the men of the fighting services overseas. It seems fair and reasonable to suggest that at least two months before the elections a representative of each of the main election contestants should.be allowed direct contact with our mam military groups overseas.”
