WELLINGTON RUGBY

Classification Of Senior

Teams

The management committee of the Wellington Kugby Union last night decided that the following senior teams take part in the Jubilee Cup competition this season :—Marist Brothers’ Old Boys, Petone, Poneke-Oriental, Wellington, Wellington College Old Boys, Athletic, Army, and Hutt. Though Johnsonville had qualified, it was decided, in view of the facts that that team had not met several of the stronger teams in the qualifying series, and that officials of the club are not particularly desirous that the team should be promoted, to leave Johnsonville in the Hardham Cup competition with the remaining nine senior teams. This left a vacancy for one team in the Jubilee Cup competition, and the issue lay with Seatoun and Hutt, both of whom had won three games and lost three games. An almost unanimous vote favoured the promotion of the Hutt team, the vote being influenced by the fact that Hutt had won three out of the last four games, whereas Seatoun had lost three out of the last four. In conformity with the expressed wish of the clubs, it was agreed that Hardham Cun teams should appear as often as possible in the early games at Athletic Park.

The Manawntu Union wrote, stating that Manawatu was due for a visit from a Wellington representative _ team this season, and hoped such a visit would be made. The chairman, Mr. J. N. Millard, said that Manawatu had sent a team to Wellington last season, and every effort should be made to return the vio-it this season. Manawatu would be advised as to a suitable date later. The Nelson Union wrote, inviting a visit from a senior Wellington representative team, and stating that such a visit would materially assist- football in Nel-, son. It was decided to reply that, it was very unlikely that Wellington would be able to send a team.
