Operation Of Control
Order
(By Telegraph. —Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Juno 8. Inquiries made in Christchurch today into the operation of the bread-making industry control order gazetted by the Minister of Supply, Mr. Sullivan, on February 25 had no result. The order was to come into force on. April 1, but the date was later amended, to May 3. The order provided for a standard specification for various classes of bread i and was drawn up by tbe New Zealand Standards Institute under '.the . authority of the Minister. Ou May 20 it was announced unofficially that enforcement of the order had been postponed and that another conference would be held in Wellington in a fortnight when further proposals by the master bakers would be considered. The Dominion Wheat and Flour Controller, Mr. R. McPherson, questioned about the enforcement of the order in Christchurch, said that he had no knowledge of the matter. The secretary of the Standards Institule, Mr. L. .1. McDonald, had no information to give. The question he said, was one for the Departments of Labour and Health. ' . The officer in charge of the Department of Labour, Mr. R. T. Bailey, said: “I have no comment to make. All statements concerning this department must come from Wellington direct.” The Superintendent of Health. Dr. T. Fletcher Telford, said, “I can tell you nothing. I have not received a copy of the regulations.” “I have nothing to report,” was the reply from the secretary of the Canterbury Muster Bakers and Pastrycooks’ Association. Mr. G. R. Burrowes.
