Tlie Defence Act Amending Bill, which is to extend the boundaries for the use of militia was introduced in the .House of Representatives by Mr. Curtin today.

The Bill defines the area in which the militia i.s liable for service ns tlie "area bounded on the west by the 110th meridian of east longitude, on the north_ by the equator, and on the east, by the 159th meridian of east longitude.” This> means that New Zealand, New Caledonia, the Philippines, Guadalcanal, and most of the islands of tlie Netherlands East Indies will be outside the service area. Singapore. where 17.000 Australians were captured by the Japanese, is also excluded. The Bill will be debated on Wednesday.
