Air Offensive Against Guadalcanal WASHINGTON, January 26. A Navy Department communique says: "On January 25 a large force of Japanese dive-bombers, twin-engined bombers, and tigliters headed for Guadalcanal was intercepted and attacked by United States aircraft. The enemy planes were driven off. and no. bombs were dropped on United States positions. Four Jtipanese Zeros were shot down. No United States planes were °"Two units of United States ground forces joined up at Kokunbona, ou Guadalcanal, after one unit had entereu a village from along the beach to the east and the other had encircled a strong enemy poeket, entering Kokunbona from the south. The manoeuvre resulted in giving the United States forces unrestricted use of Kokunbona and, the beach to the east. -

"Two hundred and ninety-three Japanese were killed and live were taken prisoner during the operation. Seven 77mm. guns, two 37mm. guns, one tank, several trucks, three 40mm. anti-aircrait guns, mid various other field pieces and small arms were captured in offensitc operations against the enemy resistance.
