INTENSIFIED HUNT FOR U-BOATS

U.S. Planes Join R.A.F. (Received January 25, 11 p.m.) LONDON, January 24.

Elements of the unti-submarine command of the United States Air Corps have joined the R.A.F. Coastal Command in a combined effort to harass and destroy the U-boat fleet operating from French ports in the Bay of Biscay, according to a .statement from the United States Eighth Air Force. Their part, in the Battle of the Atlantic is to decimate Gorman submarines as the U-boats funnel theiy way back through the bay to relit in the Atlantic portsand strike again when they leave to resume their attacks on merchant vessels. An Air Ministry communique states: “The Bomber Command last night continued to attack I.orient, (he enemy Üboat base on the north shore of the Bay of Biscay. Visibility was good and the docks were clearly seen. In 20 minutes, a great weight of high explosives ami incendiaries was dropped, and there were many large fires.

“Another force of our heavy bombers attacked objectives in western Germany. From these operations three of our planes are miswing."
