DEATH OF MAORI WOMAN
Mysterious Features FOUND UNCONSCIOUS BY BROTHER Dominion Special Service. PALMERSTON N., January 25. A‘Maori woman, Alice Takarua. aged about 20, single, who resided with her parents at Himitangi, near Foxton, died in the early hours of this morning in unusual circumstances. So far as has been ascertained,'she went for a drive in a car with a man. They returned to the Motuiti Pa about’ midnight and the woman’s brother found her in Lite car, unconscious. He lifted her out and the car drove on.. The police are not excluding the possibility that the girl fell or jumped from the
Dr. >B. E. Crawford, Foxtail, was scut for and found the girl alive but unconscious, and she died a few minutes later.
The Foxton police were advised and Constable J. Forsyth communicated with Inspector Scott, Palmerston North, who, with Senior Detective Meiklejohu, went to Foxton. Following further police investigations, James Trevor Morgan, labourer, aged 29, Palmerston North, appeared in the Magistrates’ Court, Palmerston North, charged with breaking and entering Jolly and Mills’ garage, and stealing a Ford VS car. He pleaded guilty. Intimating that there was a possibility of a further serious charge against Morgan, Senior Detective Meiklejohu asked for a remand till Tuesday next. This was granted, Morgan not asking for bail.
