(Received January 24, 11.20 p.m.) CHUNGKING, January 23. An official spokesman revealed that 48,000 Japanese and Thai troops have penetrated a few miles into Yunnan Province in au apparent effort to capture the bases of Nankiau, Fohai and Cheli, across the border from the northern Shan States because of the Japanese fears of an Allied invasion of Burma.
