APPOINTMENT OF FIFTH SEA LORD

LONDON, January 22. The position of Fifth Sea Lord, xvhich has been vacant for some time, has been filled with the appointment of RearAdmiral D. W. Boyd, C.8.E., D.S.C., who will also take over the duties of Chief of Naval Air Equipment. He will also supervise matters relating to the Fleet Air Arm. Rear-Admiral Boyd is 51. and organized the air attack which crippled the Italian fleet at Taranto. He was iu commaud of the carriers Illustrious and Formidable, aud while in the latter ship helped to bring the Italians to battle at Cape Matapan.
