PRINCESS JULIANA’S EXPRESS WISH
No Gatherings Will Mark Birth Of Her Daughter
At the express wish of Princess Juliana, the birth of her third daughter, announced yesterday from Ottawa, will not be marked by 11115' special celebrations among her countrymen throughout the world. Optional manifestation ol the event would be of a private nature, said Mr M F. Yigeveno,.consul for the xXetuerlauds, in Wellington yesterday. The wish of her Royal Highness included the expression that any manifestation would take the form of a direct contribution to the Netherlands war effort or in some way would help to further the Netherlands CiJ The Royal baby, third Princess of the House of Orange, was born in a hospilal in Canada declared to be Dutch territory, through the Canadian Government’s proelaniation of extra territoriality over the area. The olher children ot I rmcess Juliana and her consort, Prince Henry ot Mecklenburg, are the Princesses Beatrix and Irene, the younger. Irene, being so named because Irene means peace, but the omen hoped for at her christening 111 1939 did not become an actuality. Great simplicity, kindness and an absolute lack of artificiality have won for Crown Princess Juliana of the Netherlands the affection of. the Dutch people. As a Princess of the House of Orange, her Dutch origin can be traced Uirougl] the pages of history of 13 centuries and 41 generations. This explains why the Dutch Royal House has a full claim to the title of being the oldest of all the royal dynasties in power in Europe, today much diminished. She was born on April 30, 1909. 1-, i The Dutch arc stalwart and independent individualists, held .to their Queen, Wilhelmina, because, as 1 rinccss Juliana once said, “She is the hardest worker m the country,” For the second tune in A> years Queen Wilhelmina shouldered vist responsibilities toward her people, lhe neutrality' she so valiantly strove to maintain was violated aud her country invaded by Nazi armies. Now years 01. age the Queen today is as forceful a personality as ever, the ruler of a people devoted to its own famous House ot O F'l II Princess Juliana and her husband are both enthusiastic cyclists, and as a ctiild the Princess enjoyed the ordinary pastimes and sports of Dutch children, specially skating. There is something which makes Juliana of the Netherlands different from practically all other royal princes and princesses. That factor tvas her education, which wits a real home education, under the direct: care of her parents. So “Juliaantje” ( ittle Julmiia), as she was familiarly called by the Dutch, enjoved the privilege of a real home. In her turn, the Princess will, no doubt, bring up Imr own daughters with the ,riin e love of simidicity and lUTturalness that characterized her own childhood. I heir present mode of living in an unpretentious Canadian family residence indicates that this is so.
