VILLAGE REGAINED IN BURMA
Small Raid On Calcutta
(British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, January 19.
A joint India communique reports: “Our troops are continuing offensive patrolling on the Assam front. Volunteer units composed of various nationalities have contacted the enemy in Hip Chin Hills area, and there have been occasional encounters in the past feiv days.
"Kyauktau village, about 30 miles north-east of Rathedaiing, was occupied by our troops on Sunday with only slight opposition. Enemy resistance in this area continues. Pressure is being maintained against the enemy on the Mayu Peninsula. A delayed report indicates Hint three of four enemy aircraft drojified bombs in forward areas in south-eastern Bengal on Sunday night. There was some minor material damage but no casualties were caused. Another communique states that a small number of enemy aircraft raided the Calcutta area early tonight. Bombs were dropped and two fires M’ere Started lint were soon controlled. Fighters contacted the raiders. No casualties have so far been reported, and the damage was slight.
