EX-MAYOR OF PETONE
Subscription List Opened Fallowing a suggestion from prominent citizens that tlie outstanding service rendered to the community by the late Mr. J. IV. McEwan, ex-mayor of t’etone, was worthy of some recognition a committee lias been formed comprising Messrs. 11. Green (deputy mayor), J. J. Maher (chairman, Hutt Valley Electric Power Board), G. P. Brockelbnnk (ex-councu-lor), O. Silbery (secretary to the Pelone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board, and H. Firth (town clerk), to further the project. ... After careful consideration Hie committee Ims agreed that tlie best way to serve such a iiurpose was to form a trust fund for tlie benefit of the widow and two children. The fund will be administered bv trustees Io he tippointed, and it was decided that a public subscription list be opened in order that tlie late Mr. McEwan’s many friends and associates could aid the project.Tlie Petoneotown clerk, Mr. birth, has been appointed treasurer, and will acknowledge any donations sent cither to him direct or left in his oflice in the Municipal Buildings. A subscription list Ims also been opened in the office of the Petone and Lower Hutt Gas Lighting Board, Jackson Street, Petone. where donations may lie left.
